IIT Madras To Launch New B.Tech Course Blending Music And Mathematics
Chennai, November 20, 2025 – In an exciting development for students and educators alike, IIT Madras has announced the launch of a new Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) curriculum that integrates music and mathematics. This innovative course was unveiled by the Director of IIT Madras, V. Kamakoti, during the inauguration of the Margazhi Maha Utsavam, an event organized by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Mylapore, where Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi presided.

In a progressive move, IIT Madras has begun admitting traditional musicians into its B.Tech programs, even if their scores on the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) are lower than the standard cut-off. Currently, 36 seats have been allocated under the Music and Culture category, with seven already filled.
