Indore, Madhya Pradesh – The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore, through its Centre for Rural Development and Technology (CRDT), successfully conducted a two-day Skill Development Training Programme on November 19-20, 2025. This initiative took place at the Goshala in Nayagaon, under the Gram Panchayat Simrol, and saw the participation of 190 workers from the local community.

Objective of the Training Programme

The training programme was organized under the Department of Science and Technology’s (DST) SEED project titled “Livelihood Interventions for Scheduled Caste Workers through ‘Shramik Vikas’ Community-Based Training Programmes in Simrol Block of Indore District, Madhya Pradesh.” The primary goal of this initiative is to empower rural communities by providing them with essential skills and knowledge that can enhance their livelihoods.

Topics Covered

During the two-day event, faculty members and technical experts from IIT Indore delivered comprehensive sessions on various important topics, including:

  • Modern Organic Farming Practices: Participants learned about sustainable farming techniques that can improve crop yields while preserving the environment.
  • Efficient Use of Locally Available Construction Materials: The training emphasized the importance of utilizing local resources for construction, which can reduce costs and support local economies.
  • Advanced Post-Harvest Management Technologies: Techniques for effective post-harvest management were discussed to help reduce waste and increase the profitability of agricultural products.

Community Engagement

The programme received positive feedback from local panchayat representatives and community leaders, who expressed their appreciation for IIT Indore’s efforts in bringing skill-oriented training initiatives to rural areas. The involvement of local leaders is crucial for the success of such programs, as it fosters community trust and encourages participation.

Conclusion of the Programme

The training concluded with an interactive session where participants could ask questions and engage with the trainers. This format not only facilitated a deeper understanding of the topics but also encouraged networking among participants. Additionally, study materials were distributed to all attendees, ensuring that they have the resources needed to apply what they learned.

Impact of the Initiative

This training marks another significant step under the “Shramik Vikas” mission, which aims to provide skill development opportunities and technology-driven solutions to underprivileged communities. By equipping workers with practical skills, IIT Indore is contributing to the overall development of the region, helping to uplift the local economy and improve the quality of life for many families.

Future Prospects

Looking ahead, IIT Indore plans to continue its commitment to rural empowerment and technological outreach. The success of this training programme is expected to pave the way for more initiatives that focus on skill development and sustainable practices in agriculture and construction. The institute is dedicated to fostering an inclusive approach that benefits all segments of society, particularly marginalized groups.

Final Thoughts

As India continues to evolve, the need for skill development in rural areas becomes increasingly important. Initiatives like the one conducted by IIT Indore are vital in bridging the gap between urban and rural economies.
