IIT Gandhinagar Introduces Three GenAI-Powered Residential PG Diploma Programmes
The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar) has announced the launch of three innovative postgraduate diploma programmes that are fully residential and powered by Generative AI (GenAI). These programmes are designed to equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in India’s rapidly evolving digital economy.
Programme Overview
In collaboration with Futurense Technologies, IIT Gandhinagar will offer the following six-month postgraduate diploma programmes:
- PG Diploma in AI and Agentic AI Engineering
- PG Diploma in GenAI and Data Science Engineering
- PG Diploma in AI-Powered Software Engineering with Cloud
These courses are set to commence in February 2026 and aim to address the existing skill gaps in the tech sector, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for the demands of the industry.
Objectives and Framework
According to Prof. Rajat Moona, the Director of IIT Gandhinagar, the initiative seeks to create a pool of skilled professionals who can contribute effectively to India’s digital economy. The programmes will follow a “build, deploy, scale” framework, offering over 600 hours of bootcamp-style training. This intensive training is designed to provide learners with industry-level expertise equivalent to two years of practical experience.
Admission Process
Admission to these programmes will be competitive, involving a selection process that includes the All India National Proficiency Test (AINPT) followed by multiple rounds of interviews. Each programme will admit 60 candidates, who are expected to be highly motivated and capable learners.
Living and Learning Environment
Participants will reside on IIT Gandhinagar’s expansive 400-acre eco-friendly campus. The campus provides a conducive environment for learning and collaboration, where students will be mentored by IIT faculty and industry professionals from global companies.
Training and Practical Experience
The training will emphasize practical learning and project-based experiences. Students will engage in various activities, including:
- AI Clinics
- Ideas Labs
- Reverse Engineering
- Competitive Coding
- AI-Driven Application Development
This hands-on approach ensures that students not only learn theoretical concepts but also apply them in real-world scenarios.
Career Support and Networking Opportunities
Upon successful completion of the programmes, graduates will receive placement support to help them secure positions in leading organizations. Additionally, they will gain Executive Alumni status, granting them access to IIT’s extensive professional network, which can significantly enhance their career opportunities.
Conclusion
The introduction of these GenAI-powered programmes at IIT Gandhinagar marks a significant step towards bridging the skill gap in the technology sector. By focusing on practical training and industry collaboration, these courses aim to produce graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also ready to tackle the challenges of the digital economy.
