Bihar’s youth now making their mark in technology field: IT Minister Shreyasi Singh
On March 26, 2026, Bihar’s Information Technology (IT) Minister, Shreyasi Singh, highlighted the growing presence of the state’s youth in the technology sector. Speaking at the 10th foundation day celebration of the Incubation Centre at IIT Patna’s Bihta campus, she emphasized the immense talent and potential for innovation among young people in Bihar.
Recognition of Bihar’s Youth
Minister Singh noted that historically, Bihar’s youth have been recognized primarily for their roles as IAS and IPS officers. However, she pointed out that the narrative is changing, with more young individuals emerging in the technology field. “Today, young people from the State are making their mark in the field of technology as well,” she stated.
Support for Startups and Technology Innovation
During her address, Singh discussed the Bihar government’s commitment to fostering a robust startup and technological innovation ecosystem. She stated, “Our objective is not only to promote startups but also to provide them with all the necessary infrastructure, guidance, and support—from idea to delivering the product to users.” This initiative aims to empower young entrepreneurs and innovators in the state.
Collaboration with Prestigious Institutions
At the event, IIT Patna’s Incubation Centre signed two Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna and JHPIEGO. These collaborations are expected to enhance the technological landscape in Bihar and provide further opportunities for the youth.
Infrastructure Development
Singh highlighted the development of a state-of-the-art startup workspace at Biscomaun Tower in Patna, which offers “plug-and-play” IT infrastructure facilities. This workspace will be available to startups for a period of one year, allowing them to focus on their projects without the burden of initial setup costs.
Expansion of Technology Parks
In addition to the workspace at Biscomaun Tower, the Bihar government has established Software Technology Parks in Darbhanga and Bhagalpur. These parks are designed to provide startups with the necessary resources and environment to thrive in the competitive technology sector.
Encouragement for Young Innovators
During her speech, Singh urged young innovators and entrepreneurs to set ambitious goals and to innovate fearlessly. She encouraged them to develop new solutions to the real technological challenges faced by society. “I come from the world of sports where I never learnt to accept defeat,” she remarked, drawing parallels between sports and entrepreneurship. “In sports, there is victory or new lessons learnt from the loss.”
Future Plans for Research and Development
Looking ahead, Singh mentioned that preparations are underway to open a research park at IIT Patna. This facility is expected to further bolster research and innovation in the state, providing a platform for collaboration between academia and industry.
Role of IIT Patna
Professor T.N. Singh, the Director of IIT Patna, also addressed the gathering, noting that incubation centres are being operated in four engineering colleges across the state with the support of IIT Patna. This initiative aims to create a network of resources and support for aspiring entrepreneurs in Bihar.
Conclusion
The initiatives outlined by Minister Shreyasi Singh demonstrate a strong commitment to empowering Bihar’s youth in the technology sector. With the support of the government and prestigious institutions like IIT Patna, young innovators are poised to make significant contributions to the technological landscape of the state.
