4-Day Science Congress Begins at IIT-P

Patna: The four-day Regional Science Congress 2025 commenced with great enthusiasm on Wednesday at the Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT-P). This significant event is hosted by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) and aims to inspire young minds in the field of science and technology.

Participants and Selection

The congress brings together 100 outstanding students, primarily Class X toppers, including 24 girls. These students were selected from 83 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. The event is designed to immerse these young talents in a spirit of scientific curiosity and innovation.

Objectives of the Congress

The primary objective of the congress is to:

  • Ignite scientific curiosity among students.
  • Foster awareness of cutting-edge developments in science and technology.
  • Cultivate a rational and scientific temper among the participants.

This year’s theme is “Application of Emerging Technologies in Sustainable Development,” emphasizing the importance of integrating modern technology with sustainable practices.

Inaugural Address

During the inauguration of the young scientists’ meet, A K Thakur, the dean-cum-registrar of IIT-P, encouraged the talented youths to broaden their horizons. He urged them to look beyond traditional disciplines such as science, engineering, and technology, and to explore areas like ideation, incubation, and entrepreneurship. Thakur emphasized that these explorations are vital for meaningful contributions to nation-building.

He also highlighted the significant advancements India has made in semiconductor technology, pointing out the vast opportunities available within the science and technology sector for students.

Engaging Activities

The congress features a variety of engaging activities aimed at enhancing the participants’ understanding of scientific principles. Notably, IIT-P’s senior faculty member, Naveen Nishchal, delivered an inspiring talk titled “Inspiration Towards the Study of Science.” This session aimed to motivate students to pursue their interests in science.

Participants also had the opportunity to visit IIT Patna’s physics and chemistry laboratories, as well as its incubation center. Here, they engaged in hands-on experiments and explored practical applications of scientific theories, allowing them to experience the real-world implications of their studies.

Support from Educational Leaders

R K Choudhary, the assistant commissioner of NVS for the Patna region, along with Mukhtar Singh, the principal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Bikram, also addressed the students. Their speeches reinforced the importance of scientific education and encouraged students to take full advantage of the opportunities presented during the congress.
